Job Description: Schedule: 72 hours per two-week pay period, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., including every other weekend.
Job Summary: Spectrum Health consists of two acute care facilities with a combined capacity of over 1,000 inpatient beds. We also offer opportunities in our outpatient settings including offices, clinics, occupational health, Med Centers and Surgical Centers. This position provides nursing care to patients with many types of surgeries including abdominal surgeries, urological and gastrointestinal diseases.
Job Requirements: Michigan RN license. CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment.
Other: Time management and organizational skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers and their application preferred. Working knowledge of a variety of health care equipment. Ability to make quality, independent decisions. Ability to instruct and direct the work of others. 80% of time spent standing and/or walking. Ability to lift up to a 60 pound weight load. Very frequent lifting and bending, pushing and/or pulling loads. Able to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions.
Unit Profile: Spectrum Health offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of acute Digestive Diseases. On 1E at the Blodgett campus, our Digestive Disease Unit offers comprehensive care and admits patients with diagnosis of colorectal disease and illness as well as a variety of related concerns. The minimum patient age is 18.
The unit features 32 beds and a staff dedicated and educated to care for primarily surgical patients with digestive diseases but includes medical treatment as well. The unit supports the comprehensive delivery of care and improved efficient services that focus on the care and treatment of digestive diseases. The nursing staff provides expert care to patients with diagnostic needs and complex gastrointestinal disorders and incorporates diagnostic nursing with highly specialized interventional gastrointestinal nursing in a multicultural, multidisciplinary setting. They excel in their careers by delivering professional excellence and compassion to our gastrointestinal patients. We include a team of clinicians whose expertise focuses on diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and specialize in disorders of the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, small intestine, colon and rectum. A strong commitment has been made to provide informative and educational resources to health professionals wishing to enhance their careers or knowledge base, as well as to patients and their loved ones wishing to enhance their understanding of various digestive diseases and/or procedures. The management of digestive disease has improved enormously in the last two-three decades. It has also become more complex as the number of treatments have proliferated making it essential for all of these different specialists to work together to provide the most effective and efficient treatment. This collaboration works best when the specialists work together in a coordinated group such as in our Digestive Disease Center at the Blodgett Campus of Spectrum Health. An estimated 62 million Americans are diagnosed with digestive disorders every year. Some digestive diseases are sudden and self-limiting; others can be chronic, debilitating, and even life threatening. Digestive disorders in Americans have become more commonplace than ever as our lifestyle and culture have increased to a faster pace than ever. Our team, including our on-unit Enterstomal Therapist, is dedicated to the patients and families we serve.
Qualifications: Registered Nurse licensed or eligible for licensing in the State of Michigan. Experience preferred but attitude and teamwork essential. Applicants without experience are encouraged to apply. Comprehensive, individualized orientation and education is provided.
